Defending champions UP-TUKS will travel to Johannesburg on the 15th of September to take on the University Of Johannesburg at the Soweto Campus, kick-off is at 19:00.
UJ are yet to be beaten in the Varsity Football tournament and they have reached the final through their stellar performances under the guidance of former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell. UP-TUKS are at an all-time high after beating NWU through penalties last week.
Revenge is the common word amongst the University Of Pretoria’s students as UJ beat them in the final of the USSA Nationals last year in Gauteng and in the round robin phase of this year’s edition of Varsity Football. That was UP-TUKS worst defeat in the tournament since its inception and they will look to lift the trophy for the second time.
UP-TUKS head coach Evangelos Vellios emphasizes the big match temperate that his players have and insists it will come in handy in the final “The big match temperate comes from the experienced players who have won USSA Nationals and last year’s Varsity Football and this will give us the edge going into the final against UJ”.
The team will be joined by the ladies team who will lock horns with the Tshwane University of Technology at the University of Johannesburg Soweto campus, kick-off is at 16:00.
The final promises to be an entertaining encounter as there is no under-dog in a final.
