UP-TUKS succumbed to a 3-1 loss through penalties in the USSA Gauteng semi-final against Wits at the Tuks stadium on the 23rd of September 2014.
UP-TUKS started off dominating possession as they looked to acclimatise quicker than Wits. First real chance fell to the hosts through Nicholas Killas who headed over in the 9th minute. Less than five minutes later Jeremiah Nkwana created space for himself and fired his shot wide. UP-TUKS’ dominance was becoming a handful for the visitors as Richard Moremi’s shot-cum-cross was punched away by the Wits goalie in the 24th minute.
The best chance of the first half fell to UP-TUKS when Botshelo Mfulwane muscled his way through the Wits defence to cross for Richard Moremi who was too far to poke the ball home and that concluded the first stanza of the semi-final.
Shortly after the second half commenced Botshelo Mfulwane dispossessed the Wits defender and he crossed to an unmarked Tebogo Galane who couldn’t get the ball out of his feet until he was dispossessed by the Wits defender. Thabo Ndlovu fired his effort wide in the 64th minute.
Mbongeni Masilela flicked his effort agonizingly wide in the 70th minute. Botshelo Mfulwane’s header is saved by the Wits goalie in the 75th minute. Nkwana’s powerful shot was punched away by the Wits goalkeeper in the 80th minute. Mbongeni Masilela’s bicycle kick went over in the 80th minute.
