UP-TUKS played out to a 2-2 draw against North West University at the Tuks stadium on the 18th of August. 

The match started off tense as the two teams sized each other with the midfield players cancelling each other out. The first real opportunity at goal came from NWU, Lindani Dudula fired his shot over from point blank range in the 20th minute. Richard Moremi forced an error from the NWU defence which allowed Mbongeni Masilela to open the scoring in the 23rd minute to give UP-TUKS the lead.

Nicholas Killas’ header from close range was saved by Amogelang Maduo in the 47th minute. 4 minutes later Nicholas Killas headed straight into Amogelang Maduo’s hands. Jeremiah Nkwana volleyed the ball into the bottom corner after Richard Moremi had placed it well for him in the 58th minute. NWU struck back immediately after a long ball from Machwisa found Dudula who converted to make it 2-1 in the 59th minute.

Mbongeni Masilela was set up by substitute Lucky Mathosi, he unleashed a powerful shot that was punched away by Amogelang Maduo in the in the 69th minute. Orebotse Mongae equalised in the 81st minute with a fine finish to level matters.

Both teams pushed on for the winner but it all ended level in Pretoria in an exciting encounter. Mbongeni Masilela lamented the lack of concentration that saw them give up their lead twice but was satisfied with the result however “A lapse in concentration cost us twice today and that is something we need to fix but overall I’m happy with the performance especially how we exploited their weaknesses to create our goals”.
