Tuks Defend UGFL Title

The TuksFootball Women's team successfully defended their USSA Gauteng Football League - "AmaTuesdayz" trophy after beating TUT Pretoria in the league final at the TUT Stadium on Saturday 14 November 2015.

TUT Pretoria are the current USSA Football national champions however, the two teams drew one-all in the round robin stages of the league and Tuks beat TUT twice in the Gauteng Sasol League.

The two teams took a few minutes to feel each other out but it was Tuks who drew first blood when central defender Regina Mogolola took a long-range free-kick from in front of the TUT bench and beat the keeper who was well off her line to open the scoring. A communication error between the goal scorer who was trying to shield the ball and the on-rushing goalkeeper allowed the TUT forward to steal the ball from between them for the easiest of equalisers on the stroke of half time.

Tuks began the second half pretty much how they started the first and again they were first on the scoresheet in the second half after left winger Hild Magaia received the ball just after the center line and went on a lone run; beating both the TUT right back as well as the cover defence leaving the goalkeeper exposed. Magaia made no mistake with a powerful grasscutter that went under the onrushing keeper to give Tuks the lead once more. It looked like that is how it was going to end but for a dubious call by the referee, giving TUT a free-kick on the edge of the penalty box. The free kick itself was taken before anyone was ready beating a baffled Nthabiseng Matshaba but the referee allowed the goal to stand and again the home side equalised on the stroke of full time and the match ended at two-all.

The match had to be settled through penalties. Regina Mogolola, Mavhungu Manyanya, Lebogang Mabatle and Hilda Magaia all scored the Tuks penalties while captain Nthabiseng Matshaba saved one penalty and the trophy went back to Hatfield.

Tuks XI: Nthabisng Matshaba, Regina Mogolola, Ncamsile Shongwe, Nosipho Zondo (Mavhungu Manyanya 64'), Amanda Molefe, Lebogang Mabatle, Hilda Magaia, Katrina Maguire, Alexandra Michael, Vanessa Siakam, Phidah Chego.
