AmaTuks and Reach for a Dream surprised a young cancer patient, Lesego Van Wyk and his friends with a football themed party at the Dr. George Mukhari hospital oncology ward, on Thursday 27th February.
Lesego is a 6 year old boy and has been diagnosed with renal and retinal tumors and has Retinoblastoma. He is blind due to the tumors in his eyes and is bed ridden with machines strapped to his body, Lesego is fed through a feeding tube.
The young man was due to attend AmaTuks’ match vs Platinum Stars on the 16th February but his condition became worse. To make his dream come true AmaTuks went to the visit him in hospital where he was presented with an autographed personalized team shirt.
Although Lesego could not get out of bed and could not speak, one could sense the joy throughout the ward as other kids laughed and mingled with the visitors. Fourteen year old Itumeleng from Hammanskraal told Captain Tebogo Monyai that when he gets out of hospital he would like the captain to come watch him play football.
Marketing Officer Karabo Molokoane said, “We feel privileged to be in a position where we can make a difference to the children of our country and we will continue to do so for as long as we can”.
