AMATUKS HOLD CHIEFS TO A DRAW

AmaTuks held log leaders Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium. A goal by Mame Niang cancelled out George Lebese’s goal, nine minutes after Chiefs took the lead.

The game started off relaxed, Chiefs were the first to get a chance at goal in the 13th minute when AmaTuks failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Willard Katsande who shot straight at the AmaTuks keeper Washington Arubi from inside the box.

Minutes before half time AmaTuks had the first real chance at scoring when a well worked out set piece resulted in Thabo Mosadi piercing through the Chiefs defence and releasing a low shot, forcing the Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune to parry it away. The deflected ball fell into the path of Bongani Zungu who blasted high in front of an open net.

Chiefs took the lead in the 55th minute. AmaTuks lost possession in the middle of the park, allowing Chiefs to build up play going forward. The final pass of the build-up landed to George Lebese in the box who slotted the ball past Washington Arubi.

AmaTuks found the equaliser nine minutes later when Chiefs failed to deal with a low cross into the box. Mame Niang found some space in the box and slotted a powerful left footed low shot in the net, beating the Itumeleng Khune in the 64th minute.

In the 68th minute Chiefs had an opportunity to get back in the lead when Lehlohonolo Majoro found some space and managed to make his way through the AmaTuks defence, but his shot was greatly saved by Arubi from close range.

The few minutes of the game saw both teams missing opportunities to collecting maximum points, ending the match 1-1.

Washington Arubi was named man of the match for his heroics between the sticks.

Aftrer the first half of the ABSA premiership we find ourselves in 6th potion on the league table.
